With the publishing of the 2017 MIS survey report, comes news of the winner of the iPad Air 2!

WCBS presented it to Leanne Dundee, Database Manager at Farringtons School, Chislehurst, Kent, who was chosen at random from the many respondents who completed the survey.

Assessing the MIS market is something we, here at WCBS, see as really important. It's always worthwhile to take a step back to assess the state of play in order to make changes and improvements to drive education management forward.

What better way to do this than by inviting users worldwide to complete the industry-wide survey, as this not only highlights key trends for the year ahead, but also shares progress and changes compared to the previous survey we conducted in 2015.

We were mindful to include many of the same questions that were in the last survey so that a true comparison could be made, but in the ever-evolving world of information management, added new ones.

In the 2015 study, the top challenge for schools was understanding their management information system. This year, challenges have become more specific. Reporting was cited as the biggest challenge, along with linking the MIS to other school systems.

“This is good news,” says Ian Hunter, Chief Commercial Officer at WCBS. “It suggests that schools have developed an improved understanding of their MIS and are now identifying more complex challenges that are affecting how they use and optimise the system they have.”

In addition to investing in staff training, schools cited attracting and retaining pupils, efficiency and cost, and high performance learning as reasons for MIS investment now and in the near future. Functionality, brand reputation and customer service were criteria considered more important than price when choosing a new management information system.
