Strong wind from the North – causes even more of a challenge for golf event!

Another very successful International Schools Heads Masters golf event was held at the Vale Resort on 19th and 20th July. Sponsored by ISC Research, TIC Recruitment, Warwick Mann International, and WCBS International, this was the sixth annual event in the UK. COBIS kindly sponsored the wine for the event’s prize-giving dinner after the second day’s golf.

Day One was the height of the summer so far and Day Two featured a strong wind from the North. The course played superbly, conditions challenging on both days for different reasons. From a field of 20-plus players, Adam Drew from Headstart International School, Phuket, Thailand was the winner with 28 Stableford points. Runner-up was Laurie McLellan from Nanjing International School, China. Richard Gaskell won the Sponsors trophy easily, with a superb score of 35 points (handicap review pending!).

The Team Prize went to Richard Gaskell (ISC Research), Martin Skelton (late of WCL Group), Barry Searles (Egypt British International School), and Craig Blyth (Warwick Mann International). Adam Drew scooped the Longest Drive and Martin Skelton was Nearest-the-Pin.

One WCBS staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, commented, “Thank you for not mentioning where the booby prize ended up.....three balls in the water on the same hole is a career best for me!”

The event is staged every July in the UK and is open to Heads, Principals, Directors and senior managers from international schools. If anyone wants to be kept informed about future events, just email Tony Child at

The next overseas event will be in Bahrain in March 2017. The next International Schools Golf Competition Day in the UK will be Wednesday 19th July 2017.
